NATURALIST ILLUSTRATIONS

PRESENTATION

My passion for naturalist illustration started after visiting an art exhibition on the famous watercolourist painter Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840), also known as the « Raphaël of the Flowers ». After this visit, I started drawing and painting botanical subjects and animals, insects or seashells. I’m fascinated about fauna and flora, which constitute my main source of inspiration. In addition to nature, I am also inspired by the artwork of other botanical and naturalist painters like Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) as well as the work of contemporain artists like Vincent Jeannerot or Pedro Salgado..

Ma passion pour l'illustration naturaliste est née après une exposition sur le célèbre peintre aquarelliste Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759–1840), surnommé le « Raphaël des fleurs ». Suite à cette visite, j’ai commencé à dessiner et peindre des sujets botaniques mais également des animaux, insectes ou coquillages. La faune et la flore me passionnent et sont ma plus grande source d'inspiration. Outre la nature, je m'inspire également du travail d'autres peintres spécialisés dans ce domaine comme Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), mais aussi d’artistes contemporains tels que Vincent Jeannerot ou encore Pedro Salgado.

ARTISTIC APPROACH / DEMARCHE

My artwork takes its roots in the fundamental rules of naturalist painting, which objective is to represent the nature in its reality, without any staging nor artifice. My approach also aims at questioning the visitor on the beauty of the world in which he lives in and on the necessity to protect our fauna and flora, which constitute the world heritage of humanity.

Mon travail revient aux fondamentaux de la peinture naturaliste avec pour objectif de représenter la nature telle qu'elle est, dans sa réalité, sans mise en scène ni artifice. Ma démarche veut également interpeller sur la beauté du monde dans lequel on vit et la nécessité de protéger notre faune et notre flore, patrimoine commun de toute l'humanité.
